Visitors enter a spectacular, stylised ship’s hull to embark on a journey through 1000 years of inland and maritime navigation. Fascinating models and sensational major exhibits that have never been shown before provide an insight into life on and with the river and the ocean. The exhibition not only deals with the different means of transport and their technology, but also with the people who lived and worked on the rivers and oceans.
Follow the time line to discover more about how vehicles with and without engines influenced the lives of people in Germany before the Second World War and during the East German regime until today.
The exhibition presents stages of Saxon and German railway history, showing valuable originals and models, such as the oldest German steam locomotive.
Measuring 325 sqm, with 26 locomotives and 115 coaches, our 0-gauge model railway layout ranks among the largest of its kind, even on an international level.
