AIR TRAFFIC

Some exhibits, especially engines but also airplanes, can be seen as originals or replicas in full size. The largest part of the exhibition is devoted to models in different scales.

In the car hall of the museum building, visitors are welcomed by a Grade monoplane, for the most part consisting of original parts; and a 1:1 replica of a Bleriot XI airplane (both dating from 1909).

The aviation exhibition halls show the two major lines of aviation history: "Lighter than air" and "Heavier than air."

In particular, models of a Riedinger balloon (1900) and airships of the construction types Baumgarten (1879), Zeppelin (1908) and Parseval (1914) can be seen here; also, replicas of the Lilienthal Glider (1893) and a balloon car (dating from about 1910) are displayed. Besides, our original exhibits feature an ultralight aircraft of 1987; a touring aircraft, the Super Aero 45S (1953), as well as various types of airplane engines. Models from the Wright Flyer to the Airbus A 380 show the development of passenger aviation from its beginnings to the present day.

Among the large number of original exhibits on aviation industry in the former GDR (with the main locations in Dresden and Pirna) the models of the first turbine jet passenger aircraft, the 152, as well as an original jet turbine, the Pirna 014 (dating from 1958), are particularly noteworthy.

A new feature of the exhibition is a flight simulator.
